Catawba College alumnus Dr. Jonathan Slaughter ’00, a Neonatologist and Research Principal Investigator at Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University, was recently awarded a five-year, $3 million research grant from the National Institutes of Health to help neonatal caregivers better care for preterm infants through Early Prediction of Spontaneous Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) Closure and PDA-Associated Outcomes.

He earned his Medical Degree (MD) from Wake Forest University, and his Master of Public Health degree (MPH) from The Ohio State University. While a student at Catawba, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with minors in History and Chemistry.

He is married to wife Laurel, who works as Child Neurologist at Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University. The two are parents of daughters Greta (8) and Ruby (5).
