On-campus collaboration between Catawba College student groups, organizations, and academic and operational departments is key to creating a new vision for Sustainable Catawba. An effort to seal this collaboration launches February 21 with a pledge.

The Catawba Sustainability Pledge that students, faculty and staff commit to with their signatures is one that will address individual behaviors relating to waste, transportation, food and energy use. The signatures will displayed on a banner to be hung in the Cannon Student Center after the Feb. 21 event. The pledge commits individuals to take action to develop environmentally conscious habits.

Members of the campus community who want to take the pledge may do so between 11am and 1pm on Feb. 21 in the Leonard Lounge of the Cannon Student Center. In exchange for their signature, those signing will receive a Sustainable Catawba t-shirt. These t-shirts are being funded through monies contributed by all of the campus departments and organizations that have long supported the college's move to sustainability.

Campus organizations and departments which are part of the sustainability effort include student organizations – Environment Catawba Outreach (ECO), Green Education Outreach (GEO), Student Government Association (SGA), American Chemical Society (ACS) and Tri-Beta National Biology Honor Society; the President's Climate Commitment, Green Pig (an on-campus sustainability initiative), the Facilities Department, the Center for the Environment, and Chartwells Food Service.
