Catawba College's Wellness Committee sponsored a Health Fair on Friday, October 5th in Leonard Lounge.

To pull off the event, the Wellness Committee partnered with many Rowan County agencies and health care providers, including Rowan Regional Medical Center - Novant Healthcare, Maxim, YMCA of Rowan County, Family Crisis Council, and the Pregnancy Support Center.  In addition there were some clubs and staff members who played active roles in the Health Fair, including the Helen Foil Beard Women's Society and Dr. Nan Zimmerman, one of the counselors on campus.

During the Health Fair, students, faculty and staff members stopped by and visited a variety of the booths. Many of the vendors on site distributed and provided helpful information on a variety of health-related topics, as well as free health-screening booths.

Free blood pressure, glucose and HIV screening were available to everyone. Also, a flu shot clinic and mobile mammography screenings were available for employees.

Many of the people who came to the fair continually said that it was nice of the Wellness Committee to put it together and expressed hope that it would become an annual event.

The students all had comments such as "I got this done ... and it was FREE" or they would say, "I got this information on..."

The Health Fair was a success all around according to people on campus. And with this first success, many hope the Health Fair is here to stay and that it continues to grow each year.
