Alpha Chi Ceremony Sends Off Graduating Seniors

Graduating seniors who are members of Catawba College's Omicron Chapter of Alpha Chi, national college honor society, were recognized during a May 10th ceremony held in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel.

One new candidate was initiated into the society, senior Courtney Amber Frick of Rockwell, and new officers were also installed, including President Elizabeth J. White of Salisbury, and Secretaries Lindsay C. King of Kannapolis and Ashley Wietbrock of Salisbury.

Graduating seniors recognized in addition to Courtney Amber Frick included Amelia Baity of Hamptonville; Kylie Beinke of Cary; Gabriella Bressi of Villanova, Pa.; Meredith Brown of Statesville; Jodye Carroll of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; Michelle Chaffee of Holly Springs; Whitney Corriher of Salisbury; Joshua Cummings of Faith; Elizabeth Davis of East Bend; Christina Faircloth of Belmont; Hannah Fisher of China Grove; Katherine Higgins of Durham; Jaclyn Lawrence of Waxhaw; Katie Marlowe of Newton; Taylor May of China Grove; Jubilee Meehan of Kannapolis; Maura Pantone of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Blake Rushing of Indian Trail; Blanche Schwarz of Statesville; Dustin Shelton of Kannapolis; and Lindsay Smith of Salisbury.

Dr. Barry Sang, who serves as a faculty advisor to the society along with Dr. James Stringfield, delivered the homily entitled "Self-Cultivation for the Sake of All."

Dr. Margaret Stahr, assistant professor of English at Catawba, serves as sponsor of Catawba's Alpha Chi chapter.

Catawba's Omicron Chapter of Alpha Chi was founded in May 1978. To date, 639 members have been inducted. Membership is open only to those students in the top 10 percent of the junior and senior classes. Alpha Chi membership represents the highest academic achievement at Catawba College.
