Martha Caulder talks fast, walks fast and likes to stay busy. You'll probably notice her start to fidget if you ask her to sit still too long.
That's good, because she's taking on a lot in her new job as principal at Andrews Elementary School. But she's not new to administration: Caulder has been an assistant principal at four elementary schools.
The Times-News talked to Caulder on Wednesday to learn more about her and her approach to education.
Career: Caulder came to Andrews from Newlin Elementary School, where she was assistant principal for two years. She's also been assistant principal at Pleasant Grove Elementary, South Graham Elementary, and Elon Elementary.
Before going into administration, she taught at Newlin for seven years. Caulder mainly taught third grade but also taught second grade and kindergarten and was curriculum lead teacher. In that job, she worked with teachers throughout the school on instructional strategies and other areas.
Caulder said the job convinced her to give school administration a try. She got a master's degree in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Earlier background: Caulder, 37, is a 1989 graduate of Williams High School in Burlington. She grew up knowing she wanted to teach - "I played school at home with my brothers and sisters" - and majored in elementary education at Catawba College.
