Amanda Sowards, a 2010 Catawba College graduate, represented her homestate of North Carolina in the 2014 Ms United States pageant in Washington, DC July 1-6.  At the pageant, Amanda placed in the Top 10.

Amanda graduated from Catawba with a B.A in Communications and later earned a Broadcast Journalism degree from Carolina School of Broadcasting. She co-founded a non-profit at 22 years old, called Feeding the Five Thousand, which collects bowls, spoons, cups and food to ship over sea’s for poverty stricken children in Nicaragua. Currently, Feed the Five Thousand is able to provide a hot meal for over 15,000 children daily and over 10,000 toys and bowls to Children at Christmas.
