Catawba Alumnus Canaan Cox '12 recently released the official music video for his debut single "Lie" -  the result of a disintegrating relationship. Rather than focusing on the negative energy of the experience, Cox chose to take a positive route by becoming physically fit and mentally confident.

"This music video is the icing on the cake that is 'Lie,'" said Cox. "The song itself says it all, but the music video captures my true experience through this heartbreak."

With the help of his trainer, Cox lost 65 lbs. and underwent a physical transformation specifically for the concept of his music video. The video features training footage of Cox and a carefully choreographed fight scene inspired by studying Marvel films.

The release of "Lie" placed Cox on the map. The single was featured as an iTunes Country Hot Track upon its release and is available via Apple Music, Spotify and other digital retailers.

Cox earned a degree in Musical Theatre from Catawba in 2012. In addition to theatrical productions, he participated in the Catawba Singers and Men’s Ensemble, as well as several Vernaculars’ ensembles throughout his time at Catawba. As a student, he brought a lot of diverse talent to those performances, which included choir tours and a European tour in 2011.

Cox’s musical influences include talents such as Ricky Skaggs, Joe Diffie, Conway Twitty, Nickel Creek and Hanson. In addition to performing regularly in Nashville, he also performs for Carnival Cruise Lines.
