For the sixth straight year, Catawba College was ranked among the Top 10 Best Colleges in the South by U.S. News & World Report. Catawba is tied at #8 with Welch College. The 2022 national rankings were released today.

Catawba was also recognized as:

  • #5 in Best Undergraduate Teaching
  • #5 in Most Innovative Schools
  • #6 in Best Colleges for Veterans
  • #12 in Top Performers on Social Mobility
  • #26 in Best Value Schools

“Our growing reputation reflects our constant determination to create a top-tier academic and student-centered experience,” said Dr. David P. Nelson, president of Catawba College. “These rankings and other accolades with objective metrics recognize the strength of a Catawba degree.”

The prestigious ranking in the undergraduate teaching category recognizes institutions where faculty and administrators are committed to high-quality teaching.

Colleges on the cutting-edge of academics are recognized on the Most Innovative Schools list.

The “Best Colleges for Veterans” ranking is awarded to schools that reported on their enrollment of and benefits for veterans and active-duty service members as part of the U.S. News’ annual statistical survey of undergraduate schools.

Catawba also earned a spot on the U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges Social Mobility list, which measures how well institutions graduate students who have received Pell Grants, most of whom come from families with adjusted gross incomes below $50,000.

“Best Value” rankings evaluate an institution’s academic quality and its net cost of attendance after the average level of need-based financial aid. The higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the value.

The 37th edition of the U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges rankings evaluated 1,466 U.S. bachelor's degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality.

Rankings are based on nine broad categories, including graduation and retention rates, social mobility, graduation rate performance, undergraduate academic reputation, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources per student, average alumni giving rate, and graduate indebtedness.
