Dr. Michael Baranski, a Catawba College biology professor, served as editor for "The Proceedings of the Andre Michaux International Symposium," which was published and distributed in late May. The 237-page "Proceedings" appear in "Occasional Papers in Eastern Botany," a supplement to "CASTANEA, The Journal of the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society."

Baranski served as program chairman for the symposium, which was held in May of 2002 and centered on Michaux, a pre-eminent early American explorer-botanist. He then followed up as editor of "Proceedings" and authored its Introduction. "Proceedings" includes nine of the 12 invited papers, nine of the 16 contributed papers, and seven additional papers, including the Introduction.

Baranski has served terms as president of the SABS, the Association of Southeastern Biologists, and the N.C. Academy of Science. He has served terms as editor of "CASTANEA," on the editorial board of "The Journal of the North Carolina Academy of Science," and editor of two issues of "Occasional Papers in Eastern Botany."
