receives award from Civitan, Dr. Larry Cartner.

Arlington Owensby, a senior Elementary Education major in Catawba’s School of Education, recently received the Rev. Milton B. Faust Scholarship in Education offered by the Salisbury Civitan Club.  The scholarship honors character and academic excellence.

The Salisbury Civitan Club generously provides the scholarship for one student enrolled as a Teacher Education major or minor at Catawba each year.  The student is selected by vote of the Teacher Education faculty based upon the criteria provided by the Civitan Club.  This year’s recipient, Arlington Owensby, was selected by faculty due to her strong commitment to her coursework, her enthusiasm for the teaching profession, and her demonstration of character both in and out of the classroom.

“Arlington represents the character, professionalism, and devotion to the pursuit of learning we hope all future teachers will possess,” stated Dr. Creamer, the Assistant Dean of Teacher Education. “I have confidence her future students will benefit from her teaching.”

Dr. Christina Azmy, Assistant Professor of Education added, “Arlington is always interested in increasing her knowledge in order to become a better teacher.”
