A group of international students from Catawba College recently spent time with students at Salisbury Academy. The visit was in preparation for the school's Olympics-themed Field Day, on which each class is assigned a country to represent.

To encourage a deeper cultural understanding and appreciation for other countries, Kim Smith and Dr. Maria Vandergriff-Avery — both of whom are Catawba employees and parents of students at Salisbury Academy — partnered 11 of Catawba's international students with the academy's classes.

The college students enjoyed speaking to the classes and sharing information about their countries, gladly volunteering their time during final exams.

Students and the grade they spoke to included: 1st Grade, Declan Stimson of Australia; 2nd Grade, Malen Eiriksdottir and Gudny Jonsdottir of Iceland; 3rd Grade, Kirsten Saltus of Bermuda; 4th Grade, Nadine Brockmann and Phillip Hollenhorst of Germany; 5th Grade, Sophie Waller and Chris Watts of England; 6th Grade, Jevgenij Gamper of Lithuania; 7th Grade, Cassie Shear of South Africa; and 8th Grade, Aly Hegazi of Egypt.
