This fall, the Catawba College Chiefs Club hopes to fill Shuford Stadium during home football games by promoting themed game days.

At 7 p.m., Saturday, September 8, Catawba will take on Livingstone for the Mayor's Cup. At this event, the late James "Jim" F. Hurley III, a local philanthropist and former publisher of The Salisbury Post, will be remembered. Hurley's picture will be printed on the front of all game programs for this night. At this same game during halftime, the Catawba College Baseball team, the 2012 Southeast Regional Champs, will be recognized in a unique way.

Later in the season, on September 22 and October 6, different organizations will be targeted and offered free admission to the games. This initiative is a way to promote Catawba College football and family fun, according to Gordon Kirkland, Catawba's director of athletic development.

On September 22, Rowan Regional Medical Center employees and three guests per each employee will be admitted free of charge by showing their ID badges at the 7 p.m. Catawba game against Tusculum.

When Catawba takes on Carson-Newman College in a 1:30 p.m. match on October 6, Rowan-Salisbury School System employees and three guests will be admitted at the gate by showing their employee ID badge. Also at this game, living members of Catawba's 1946 and 1947 Tangerine Bowl Championships teams will be recognized just before kickoff in the stadium.
For more details on the themed game days, contact Gordon Kirkland at (704) 637-4394.

Catawba College's Chiefs Club is the athletic booster club for Catawba's athletic teams. Memberships in the Chiefs Club supports 83 full athletic scholarships that the college sponsors for approximately 450 student athletes playing one of Catawba's 18 NCAA Division II sports.
