Ted Demarest, Class of '77, has been named Delaware School Psychologist of the Year for 2011. He received the award at the annual conference of the Delaware Association of School Psychologists in May.

Ted has been a school psychologist for the Colonial School District in New Castle, Delaware,  since 1982.  During his tenure with the school district, he has served preschool through secondary students. Over the years he has supervised many intern and practicum graduate students from the University of Delaware's School Psychology program, and has provided extensive consultative services to other state agencies such as the Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families and the Delaware Department of Corrections, providing evaluations for students in residential treatment centers, detention centers, and foster homes. He also consults for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs. He received a Civil Rights commendation from the Delaware Secretary of Health and Social Services for his work with adolescent youth.

Each year, the Delaware Association of School Psychologists recognizes a member for this award. A fellow school psychologist who nominated Ted, wrote: "He is a powerful advocate for our field and a strong voice of reason which is grounded in years of service to his community. His insights are invaluable. Demarest is known for building relationships with students, and he continues to provide supports to them and their families as they progress through the school system. His colleagues consider him an experienced resource and a student-centered practitioner."

Ted is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, and holds state certifications in Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey. He earned his Bachelors in Psychology from Catawba and his Masters in Clinical Psychology from West Chester (PA) University. Ted is married to Kathy Kearney Demarest ('77), and they live just outside of Newark, DE.  They will celebrate their 34th anniversary in October. Their daughter, Whitney K. Demarest, Class of '08,  earned her Bachelors in Business Administration and works for Aramark at High Point University.
