If you have ever been to a Catawba College soccer doubleheader you should be well aware of how things typically go. The women's team usually plays first followed by a short break while the men warm up, then start lineup, national anthem and then kickoff. On Wednesday, October 16th, the players and coaches of the two teams changed things up a bit.

In between games, the two teams met on the field to take time out of warming up or heading to the showers, to stop and say, "Thank you" to the faculty and staff of Catawba College.

Earlier in the week and season, the players of each team singled out a particular professor or staff member who has inspired or left a meaningful impression on them. The athletes then asked that special someone to attend the Wednesday night game where one-by-one the faculty members were called onto the field to meet with the athlete and be recognized.

"We have such an outstanding group of people here at Catawba College, helping our students every day. This was just a simple way for our teams to say 'Thank you.' " said Ken Hassler, head coach for men's soccer and new to Catawba's program this year.

The Catawba soccer players recognized a wide range of college employees — from the college's provost, Dr. Michael Bitzer, to several members who work in the school's dining hall. No one was too big or too small to be recognized.

;Head women's soccer coach, Michael Swan explained, "The faculty plays such an important role for the students. The students were honored to see the great support of our faculty and vice versa. I think this type of togetherness makes Catawba such a special place for our students.";
