Catawba College students majoring in Elementary Education and Sport and Health Sciences (which includes Athletic Training, Physical Education, Teacher Education, and Recreation Management) visited Hanford Dole Elementary School recently. These students were all enrolled in PER 1945 — Instructional Strategies of Health and Physical Education in Elementary Schools.

At Hanford Dole, Catawba students completed their last student teaching practicum, an assignment that required them to tailor the theory and practice they learned in class to a lesson in K-12 schools.

The students at Hanford Dole Elementary School gave the Catawba students "gifts" or artifacts to commemorate the experience. According to Catawba Assistant Professor of Sport and Health Sciences, Dr. Tanjian Liang, reading the artifacts allowed the Catawba students to see "that they infused the concept of "personal and social responsibility" effectively through teaching developmentally appropriate elementary activities and beyond."
