Catawba College's 15 Hands Equine Club participated in a workshop on Sunday, October 15, offered by Stacey Carter. Ciaira Metz brought her horse, Rose, and mule, Bonnie, for the event. Trilby Kirk brought her horse, TJ.

Stacey demonstrated her Heart Centered Horsemanship techniques on the Catawba students' equines and taught the club members how to relate to the animals to keep them calm, happy, and interested in working with people. Other members in attendance included Catawba students Tyler Scott, Mitchell Harris, Tiffany Vang, Alex Schaeberle, Hope Woods, and Rochelle Waldroop, and club faculty advisor, Dr. Amy Holmes.

In September, members of 15 Hands Equine Club, Tyler Scott, Searah Stoops, Alex Schaeberle, and Lychia Vang volunteered at Cash Lovell Stables and Riding Academy to repaint their fencing. In exchange for their work, Parker Lovell, owner, gave the students a riding lesson on October 17th. It was the first time Lychia had ever been on a horse. While she was nervous at first, she loved the experience and wants to ride again. Tyler had only been on a horse when he was very young.

Club members learned the basics, such as how to ask a horse to walk and stop, how to steer and use your body to guide the horse, and turn circles. (Searah was unable to ride on October 17, so she will schedule a make-up lesson with Lovell.)
