Catawba College's chapter of Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology, has been designated as a Psi Chi Model Chapter for the year ending June 30, 2012. That honor was announced August 15 by the Psi Chi Board of Directors.

There were only 50 chapters of the organization that achieved Model Chapter status for the 2011-2012 academic year. Chapters do not apply for the Model Chapter program, but are rather awarded the designation based on meeting the award criteria. The criteria includes, submission of annual/financial reports; chapter activities submission for "Eye on Psi Chi;" voting in Psi Chi Society elections; chapters conducting at least one induction per year; and no outstanding debts to the Psi Chi central office.

Dr. Lyn Boulter, a professor of psychology, serves as advisor for the Catawba chapter, while Katie Zink '12 of Salisbury served as chapter president during the 2011-2012 academic year and Maura Pantone of Pittsburgh, Pa., served as chapter secretary/treasurer.
