An unconventional 19th century thriller, "Woyzeck," will be student-directed during its run at Catawba College. The show plays at 7:30 p.m. March 30-31 and April 1-2 in the Florence Busby Corriher Theatre on campus and is directed by senior theatremajor, Morgan Summers of Gastonia.

The work of German playwright Georg Büchner, "Woyzeck takes its audience through the disjointed life of its title character — military man, barber, lover, and human science experiment. The play is based on the real-life criminal case of Franz Joseph Woyzeck and is highly regarded by historians as the inception of Modern dramatic form. This production follows the fragmented memories of Woyzeck, piecing together the mystery of his life and questioning the social issues that poisoned it.

The production stars Tyler Adams from Sanford; Addison Bevis from Salisbury; Prentice Clark from Charleston, S.C.; Zach Dietz from Panama City, Fla.; Alex Donato from Stanton, Va.; Caleb S. Garner from Robbins; Anna Kate Hall from Asheville; Charles Karvon from Concord; Amy Kimbrough from Roxboro; Caroline Kirk from Ipswich, Mass.; Darren Vance from Reidsville; and Victoria Whetzel from Vale. Set design is by Trey Irby of Concord; costume design by Collette Simkins from Baltimore, Md.; lighting design by Mark Highsmith from Asheville; and sound design by Caleb S. Garner from Robbins. The "Woyzeck" stage is managed by Caitlin Billings from High Point, with assistance from Karissa Carpenter from Asheboro.
