Thanks to a $72,000 grant from the Margaret C. Woodson Foundation, Inc., Catawba College will be able to assist almost 200 returning and new students from Rowan and Davie counties who are in need of financial aid during the 2014-2015 academic year. These grant funds will be used as scholarships for qualified students from these counties.

The grant monies will enable these qualified students to enroll as students or return to Catawba to continue and complete their education. When awarded as scholarships, the grant dollars also have the effect of reducing the student loan debt carried by each student recipient.

Catawba President Brien Lewis noted that generous grants received from the Woodson Foundation in recent years have allowed students from Rowan and Davie counties to be able to pursue a private college education.

"Affordability is always a key issue confronting our students and their families," Lewis said. "Grants like those provided by the Woodson Foundation allow us to award scholarships that attract and retain qualified students.

"We continue to be grateful to the Woodson Foundation for their ongoing support of students from our area and for the faith the Foundation puts into our institution."
