To Sing With the Spirit, a free concert of music by the famous English Composer John Rutter, will be presented by the Catawba College Choral Department at the College’s Omwake-Dearborn Chapel at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005.

This performance will feature the Catawba College Chorale, the Catawba Camerata, the Catawba Student Ensemble, the Catawba Handbell Ensemble, and the Catawba Brass, along with soloists and small ensembles in a program of music for choirs with organ, oboe, harp, and percussion.     Prelude selections will be performed by the Catawba Handbell Ensemble, directed by Karl Kinard.

The Chorale will perform such favorites as “For the Beauty of the Earth,” “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” “The Peace of God,” “God Be in My Head,” and Rutter arrangements of “O, God, Our Help in Ages Past” and “How Firm a Foundation.”     Also included will be selections from Rutter’s beloved “Gloria” and “Requiem,” plus the final movement from his new work, “Mass of the Children.”

Soloists and members of solo ensembles for the performance include Sarah Cafazza,   Noah Cameron, Jared Gordon, Andrea Grenier, April Hafner, Ralph Hair, Linda Kesler, Matthew Maser, Brian Messenger, Chris Myers, Michelle McCaffrey, Patsy Parnell, Sheldon Rogers, Barry Sang, Robyn Shute, Norman Sloop, William Van Wieren, and Emily Wonderly.   Membership of the Chorale is drawn from Catawba’s student body, members of the college’s faculty and staff, and adults from the surrounding area. Rosemary C. Kinard, Assistant Professor of Music, is director of the Catawba Chorale.   Accompanist for the choirs is Robert J. Durocher.
