North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) has distributed $97,200 in UPS Scholarships at private colleges and universities in the state. The scholarships were made possible by a grant to NCICU from the UPS Educational Endowment Fund of the Foundation of the Foundation for Independent Higher Education (FIHE) which is held by the Council for Independent Colleges (CIC) in Washington, D.C.
Nationally, CIC and the UPS Foundation teamed up to provide more than $1.5 million in student scholarships this year through state-based private college associations around the country, including a grant of $97,200 to NCICU. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of the students' academic achievement and financial need.
Colleges in the state which received UPS Scholarships this year from NCICU include Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Bennett College for Women, Brevard College, Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, Campbell University, Catawba College, Chowan University, Davidson College, Duke University, Elon University, Gardner-Webb University, Greensboro College, Guilford College, High Point University, Johnson C. Smith University, Lees-McRae College, Lenoir-Rhyne University, Livingstone College, Louisburg College, Mars Hill College, Meredith College, Methodist University, Montreat College, Mount Olive College, N.C. Wesleyan College, Pfeiffer University, Queens University of Charlotte, St. Andrews University, Saint Augustine's College, Salem College, Shaw University, Wake Forest University, Warren Wilson College, William Peace University, and Wingate University.
CIC's UPS Educational Endowment Fund, which is held and administered by CIC, was initiated through endowment gifts from the UPS Foundation to FIHE totaling $4 million and is now valued over $36 million. Since its inception, this fund has awarded over $46 million in scholarship support to over 15,000 students nationwide.
