THE MOZART CONNECTION, a concert of music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and two of his contemporaries, Josef Haydn and Ludwig von Beethoven, will be presented by the Catawba College Choral Department at the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on campus at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 9.

This performance, which is free and open to the public, will feature the Catawba College Chorale and the Catawba Camerata, with soloists and small ensembles in a program of music for choirs with organ and string quartet. Prelude selections will be performed by the Catawba Handbell Ensemble, directed by Karl Kinard.

The Chorale will perform such favorites as "Achieved is the Glorious Work" and "The Heavens are Telling" from Haydn’s Creation;   the monumental "Hallelujah" from The Mount of Olives by Beethoven;   and the Mozart’s beloved "Ave Verum" and   "Laudate Dominum" from Solemn Vespers. Other works will include "Alleluia" from Exsultate Jubilate, the Missa Brevis in D, and "Sancta Maria, Mater Dei."   Soloists and members of solo ensembles for the performance include Ann Dunn, Jared Gordon, Ralph Hair, Prisca Hinkley, Brittany Morton, Brian Messenger, Chris Myers, Patsy Parnell, Natalie Penley, Cecilia Runge, Barry Sang, Norman Sloop, Anne Steele, Fran Tannehill, William Van Wieren,

Membership of the Chorale is drawn from Catawba’s student body, members of the College faculty and staff, and adults from the surrounding area. Rosemary C. Kinard, assistant professor of music, is director of the Catawba Chorale. Accompanist for the choirs is Janie R. Rollins.
