The Catawba College Board of Trustees voted at its annual meeting February 21 to grant tenure to two faculty members. Dr. Gordon Grant, associate professor of English, and Dr. Joseph Poston, assistant professor of biology, will be tenured effective with the beginning of the 2006-2007 academic year.
Dr. Grant joined the Catawba College faculty in 2003. He earned his undergraduate degree in English from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and both his master’s degree and doctorate in English from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining Catawba, he served as an assistant professor of English at Baylor University and the University of Charleston, W.Va., and as an assistant instructor of English and a teaching assistant at the University of Texas.
Dr. Poston, who will also be promoted to associate professor of biology effective with the 2006-2007 academic year, joined the Catawba College faculty in 2001. He earned bachelor of science degrees in zoology and computer science from Butler University and his doctorate in ecology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to joining Catawba, he served as an adjunct instructor and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, as a visiting assistant professor at Berea College in Berea, Ky., and as a visiting lecturer and a teaching assistant at the UNC-CH.
