Dear Students and Families,

We have completed our 5th week of class!  That means we are already 1/3rd of the way through the Fall!  Did you read the article about our ranking as a Top 10 Best Colleges in the South by US News and World Reports!  Our strong rankings are due to you, our amazing students.  We appreciate you being part of our campus family and for offering your talents that enhance our community.

On our COVID-19 data dashboard, you will notice that we are still holding stable on the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and the number of students in quarantine.  Therefore, we are still in GREEN status in our “Go Remote”/ Re-Exit Plan.  Please remain committed to following our Care About Catawba Pledge to protect ourselves and each other.

SPRING 2021!  Yes!  We are already making plans for Spring 2021.  Although we all hope that COVID-19 will lessen in the next months, we need to prepare for continued presence and challenges of the pandemic for the upcoming semester.  Many of the same strategies we have used for the Fall will remain in place.  For example, your professors are already planning to offer courses in a variety of ways (face-to-face, hybrid, and online), and we will continue to have physical distancing protocols in place.

We have also decided to make a few changes to the Spring 2021 calendar.  These changes will allow for more time after the holidays and travel, and for us to all get through part of flu season before returning to campus.  The updated academic calendar is attached to this email, and will soon be available on our College website.  Here are some of the important changes:

  • Spring 2021 classes will begin on Monday, January 25th, 2021.  This is about 2 week later than originally scheduled.
  • The Last day of classes will be on May 4th, 2021, with exams scheduled for May 6-11th.
  • Graduation will be held on Saturday, May 15th, 2021.  This is 1 week later than originally scheduled.
  • We will not have Spring Break in Spring 2021.

Remember to wear you mask, maintain physical distance of 6 feet, check your symptoms daily, and do the self-report if you have symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19.  We can do this together!  Keep up the good work, but be ever more diligent!
