Catawba College’s Helen Foil Beard Women’s Society will be “Painting It Pink” for Breast Cancer Awareness on October 16 and 17.

On Friday, October 16, the Society will hosting an information table in coordination with the Proctor Health Center and a Novant medical representative from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Cannon Student Center. Information being provided to students, faculty and staff will help improve general awareness of breast cancer and how to take a proactive approach by doing self-exams and seeing your doctor on a regular basis. There will be a basket of free information and breast cancer related items for students, faculty and staff. There will also be breast cancer survivor stories in the Student Center. Members of the Catawba community are encouraged to tell us why they are wearing pink by signing the pink banner that will be hanging in the Student Center. Helen Foil Beard Women’s Society members will be collecting donations for the Susan G. Komen Foundation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

On Saturday, October 17, students, staff, faculty and fans are encouraged to “Paint It Pink” and wear pink to the Catawba College football game against Mars Hill that kicks off at 1:30 p.m. in Shuford Stadium. The Helen Foil Beard Society will be selling baked goods at the game with 100% of the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Table of goodies will be located under the home-side stands. Pink ribbons will be available for a donation for those who would like to give. Fans are also encouraged to sign the pink banner to show their support.

In the student section of the stadium on Saturday, Paint It Pink shirts will be thrown out periodically throughout the game. For those who would like to purchase the shirts, they can do so at the baked goods table for $10 each and proceeds from the shirts will also go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Shirts will be ordered and available for delivery on November 7.

For more information or if you’d like to donate, please contact Andie Overbeck ’06, Catawba’s Director of Initiatives for Student Success and Head Cheerleading Coach.
