PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE
NC-SARA does not grant reciprocity nor exemption of licensing board approval for any courses or programs leading to professional licensure. Students enrolling in programs leading to certification and licensure are required to share their local address as part of the admissions process. This address indicates the student’s physical location when completing their academic program and must be verified as part of their enrollment checklist. While Catawba College programs have been designed to meet North Carolina requirements for professional licensure, students whose local address is outside of North Carolina may be ineligible for licensure in other states. Prior to beginning a course of study, students may consult with the academic department offering the program to receive individualized assessment and advice regarding their state’s requirements for licensure.

Catawba College’s curriculum meets the educational requirements for licensure in North Carolina. A Residency License (RL) in North Carolina allows qualified individuals to begin teaching while completing licensure requirements. The Residency License is a one-year license that can be renewed twice, for up to a three-year licensure cycle.
Currently, Catawba College serves Residency Licensure candidates seeking a Birth-Kindergarten license (full program online).
Catawba also provides the culminating coursework (internship and seminar courses) leading to licensure for graduates of Catawba College who completed the major in Elementary Education, Special Education, Middle Grades Education or the minor in Secondary Education or Special Subjects (with their content area major) but did not complete student teaching prior to graduation. Once these candidates are employed for a Residency Licensure position and have met the necessary requirements, they can reapply for admittance to the Residency Licensure program at Catawba College to complete the remaining courses for licensure.
