Sharon Newsome is the Special Assistant to the Senior Vice President for the College Experience and Office Manager for Student Affairs at Catawba. She works closely with the Senior Vice President and other directors within the division to make sure they have what they need to be successful. She maintains the office daily and assists others where and when needed. She has been named Staff Member of the Year several times and said, “this lets me know that the students appreciate what I do for them and Catawba. I continue to strive to make Catawba a better place for all of us.

Sharon chose Catawba after working here as a temp. “I was hired as a temp, so when the position opened in Student Affairs I immediately applied. I love the atmosphere and the people. Having the opportunity to work with the students excited me and Mr. Tom Childress, who I was working for as a temp, recommended me for the position.”

When asked what she loves about Catawba, she said, “I love everything Catawba – but mostly the people and the relationships I’ve built and maintained through my time here. I’m still in contact with students/faculty and staff who left Catawba years ago.”

She added, “I love seeing the excitement of students when they arrive as first-year students and then seeing how they’ve grown and matured as young adults when they graduate. I love watching students excel in the classroom and in sports. I listen to students who just need someone to hear what they are saying.”
