Jeff Little Trio Coming August 26
The Jeff Little Trio, comprised of award-winning musicians, will host a concert to support Catawba College’s music programs on August 26th @ 7:30 pm in Hedrick Little Theatre.

The 1851/Tower Society Dinner and Adrian L. Shuford, Jr. Award presentation took place on Sunday, March 19th in the Peeler Crystal Lounge of the Robertson College-Community Center.

STARS Silver Rating
Catawba College attained a Silver rating in recognition of its sustainability work from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). STARS stands for Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System, which measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.
Green Power Partner
As a leader in environment and sustainability, Catawba College recently joined the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership. Catawba uses more than 8.5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, enough green power to meet all of the College’s electricity use.

Tiffany Cox ‘07 is fast becoming a household name. If you don’t know her from her time at Catawba, you may recognize her from shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Reasonable Doubt. She is a successful actor, writer, director, and producer. And it started at Catawba College.

President David P. Nelson will start things off with special remarks – Quo Vadis Catawba? in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on Thursday. Friday will feature the annual golf scramble and Blue Masque Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Saturday will feature alumni classes, the alumni awards ceremony, tailgates, football game, and an 80’s concert. Sunday we will hold the installation of our Chaplain, The Rev. Kendra Joyner-Smith. Throughout the weekend there will be a variety of special class reunion events.

Shuford Science & Center for the Environment
Join us on September 21st from 5 – 7 pm and explore our updated Center for the Environment and Shuford Science Building. Faculty, staff, students, and community members are invited to tour two of our recently renovated buildings and see first-hand the features, equipment, and amenities in our new labs, classrooms, and offices. Athletic Highlights
Women’s Swimming GPA Top in Nation in DII
Catawba Women’s Swimming earned the highest team GPA of all Division II swimming programs for the Spring 2023 semester, with a team GPA of 3.85, continuing their hold on that spot from the Fall of 2022 when they topped the rankings with a team GPA of 3.77. The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America announces the rankings each semester.
Alexis Devlin named to NCAA DII Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
Alexis Devlin, a politics major from Orlando, FL and member of Catawba’s Track & Field team, has been selected to serve as the South Atlantic Conference representative of the NCAA Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Nurse Pinning
Catawba College held its pinning ceremony for nursing students on May 1st in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel. The ceremony marks the end of student training and entry into professional nursing practice. This year four students were presented their pins by faculty members of Catawba’s nursing program: Shelby Jefferies, Faith Benton, Camryn Bost, and Oryan Malul.

Baccalaureate
The traditional Baccalaureate service was held on Friday, May 5th in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel. The homilist for the service was Dr. Barry R. Sang, Professor of Religion at Catawba for over thirty years, who retired at the conclusion of the 2023 academic year at the end of May. The time-honored candle-lit Marshal’s Walk and reception followed the conclusion of the Baccalaureate service.

Investiture
Senior Investiture took place on Thursday, May 4th in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel, during which graduating baccalaureate degree recipients are bestowed with an academic hood to wear during Commencement. Senior students in the Honors Program were recognized and received their honors cords during the event. A separate hooding ceremony was held for master’s degree recipients.

Commencement
Catawba College celebrated 320 graduates in the Class of 2023, in its 172nd Commencement ceremony held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 6th in Keppel Auditorium. As is traditional, the student recipients of the Whitener Medals and the Barbara Andrews Award were recognized. This year’s Whitener Award recipients were Ofek Malul and Abba Willard. The recipient of the Barbara Andrews Award was Chantina Dawkins.
