Graduation Exit Loan Counseling
In order to receive your diploma, you must complete a required Graduation Exit Counseling Session if you receive or have received Federal Student Loans. Per federal regulations, Federal Exit Counseling is REQUIRED for anyone with Direct Loans, Federal Perkins Loans, and Federal Family Education Loans (FFEL).
Below are three separate requirements that must be completed and documentation submitted before the requirement for the Exit Counseling Session is satisfied. These three requirements are designed to help guide you through understanding repayment of your Federal Student Loans as well as the importance of what it looks like to have debt and the repayment options available.
Requirements:
- Completion of the Graduation Exit Counseling Presentation. This presentation will walk you through important information in regards to your student loans and repayment. This presentation does have audio so please make sure to play from beginning. After listening to the presentation you will need to initial each section of the Graduation Exit Counseling Checklist. After printing and physically signing the checklist you will need to submit the form to finaid@catawba.edu.
- Completion of the Exit Loan Counseling at studentloans.gov/exitcounseling. You will use your FSA ID to log into the website and complete the Exit Counseling. Once completed an Electronic Confirmation will be sent to Catawba within 2-4 Business Days. It is YOUR responsibility to confirm via email that we have received the notification after completing the Counseling
- Completion of the Debt and Repayment course at financialavenue.org. Access Code information is listed at the bottom of the Debt and Repayment form if you do not already have an account with Financial Avenue. Once you have completed this course you will need to send confirmation to our office at finaid@catawba.edu. You can do this by sending the grade and completion rate for the course. This can be found in the upper right hand corner of your Financial Avenue portal by clicking the icon by your name and selecting “Grades.” Please make sure your name is also visible in this picture.
Once these three requirements are satisfied then your requirement for Graduation Exit Counseling Session will be satisfied. If you do not complete these requirements then you will not receive your diploma.
