Foundations in Worship

Same as REL 1801. An introduction to the Biblical, historic and aesthetic values of music in worship that includes the Biblical foundation of Christian worship, the trends, practices, and expressions from Judeo-Christian times to the present day and how they developed throughout history.

Music Technology

A semester-long study of current music technology from both theoretical and applied perspectives. Topics include acoustics, the audio chain, signal processing, multi-track recording, sound synthesis, MIDI, and live sound reinforcement.

Fundamentals of Worship

Building on the Historical and Theological Foundations of worship and music, a study of the framework of worship expression for Christian groups around the world, including an introduction to the Liturgical calendar, Church seasons, traditional non-liturgical service structure, contemporary worship workflow and other non-traditional worship experiences. Prerequisite: MUS 1801

A course designed to help the student develop an understanding of the basics of choral conducting and practice the techniques of conducting with musical examples provided in the text. Worship in Practice

An application of the concepts and skills needed for working in and overseeing an active worship ministry and developing a comprehensive worship ministry and program within the context of a church or para-church organizations. Topics of study will include volunteer recruitment and development, church budget development and management, studies and practices in multi-generational ministry, staff relations and development, conflict resolution and other skills necessary to work in worship ministry. Prerequisite: MUS 2802
