Politics
Be Empowered to Affect Change in an Increasingly Complex, Diverse Society
In Catawba College’s Politics degree program, you will gain a comprehensive, broad-based understanding of political science by researching topics in American politics, comparative politics, and studies in the social sciences. This breadth of knowledge provides you with a comprehensive understanding of political systems and a specialized set of professional skills especially valued by employers.
As a Politics major, you will not only gain a comprehensive understanding of political systems, but you will also have the freedom to focus your education on your interests and future career and professional goals by choosing from two concentrations: Pre-Law and Public Administration. Under the guidance of the department’s engaged and inspiring faculty, Catawba’s Politics majors accept responsibility for the design and development of their own educational careers.
Politics majors also focus on developing key skills that are critical in today’s professional world of work, including excellent communication skills honed through writing assignments, oral presentations, and visual information presentations; critical thinking skills developed through reading assignments and classroom discussions; analytical problem-solving skills; and a deeper appreciation of the importance and values of governance, civics, and citizenship.
